Privacy Policy

Effective June 28, 2026

Oyster Snob is designed as a private tasting journal. This policy explains what remains on your device, what is sent to our oyster information service, and the choices available to you.

Information stored on your device

Your oyster journal, ratings, tasting notes, profile name, profile photo, oyster photos, preferences, and map cache are stored locally on your device. Oyster Snob does not require an account and does not upload this journal content or your photos to our servers.

Oyster information lookups

When Oyster Snob needs facts about an oyster, it sends the oyster name to our server-side lookup service. This can include an oyster name that you typed or one identified from menu text processed on your device. We use this information only to return oyster facts and recommendations. We do not use it for advertising or tracking, and we do not link it to an account or identity.

The lookup service uses Netlify to operate the server function and Anthropic to generate oyster information. Anthropic states that standard commercial API inputs and outputs are deleted from its backend within 30 days, subject to limited exceptions for safety, legal compliance, or separately agreed terms. Generated information may be incomplete or inaccurate and should be verified when needed.

Camera, photos, and menu text

Camera and photo access is used only when you choose to scan a menu or add a photo. Menu image recognition runs on your device. Oyster photos and menu photos are not uploaded by Oyster Snob. Menu scan history is not retained by the app.

Maps

The map geocodes oyster origin, farm, or venue text to place journal entries on a map. Oyster Snob does not request or collect your current device location.

Analytics, advertising, and tracking

Oyster Snob does not include third-party advertising, behavioral analytics, cross-app tracking, or the advertising identifier.

Data deletion

You can delete an individual tasting from the Journal. You can delete all locally stored journal data, photos, preferences, and profile information from Settings using Delete All Data. Removing the app also removes its locally stored data, subject to normal device backups controlled by Apple.

Children

Oyster Snob is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

We may update this policy as the app changes. The effective date above identifies the current version.
